What is an FD calculator?
An FD calculator projects a single deposit over a chosen term. You set the amount, annual rate and interest convention. It separates your original deposit from gross interest and the net amount after the deductions you enter. Use the same term and deduction assumptions when comparing offers.
Fixed deposit formula
For compound interest, P is principal, r is the nominal annual rate as a decimal, n is compounding frequency and t is years. This model uses an equivalent monthly accrual rate, including terms that end between compounding dates.
Simple interest uses P × (1 + r × months/12). Net maturity subtracts withholding on interest and the fixed fees you enter.
Worked FD example
A ৳100,000 deposit at 8% nominal annual interest for 12 months, compounded quarterly, grows to ৳108,243.22 before deductions. At an illustrative 10% withholding on interest and no fees, the net estimate is ৳107,418.89. The 10% input is an example, not a statement of the applicable tax rate.
Compare actual deposit terms
Ask the institution whether interest compounds, is paid out periodically or follows a simple-interest convention. Enter applicable withholding and other deductions yourself. The calculator does not automatically apply excise duty, tax status, calendar-day accrual, early closure rates or bank-specific rounding. A payout deposit that does not reinvest interest needs a different cash-flow interpretation.
Frequently asked questions
Does FD mean a guaranteed return here?
No. The result is a mathematical estimate from the entered terms; it does not verify an institution or guarantee payment.
Are Bangladesh tax deductions automatic?
No. Withholding defaults to zero. Enter the applicable percentage and other charges from the institution.
Can I calculate a six-month deposit?
Yes. Enter 6 months and choose the interest convention stated in the deposit terms.
